Fall Lip Favorites

If I had to pick a favorite season, it would be Fall. There is something about warm reds, rustic terracottas, rich plumy browns and sultry berry shades that I find so alluring.  The weather begins to get chilly, but not yet brutal (nor depressing) like winter. Sunshine is still present and the soft golden glow of the changing season provides an embracing warmth, kind of like re-acquainting with an old friend. I also enjoy the opportunity to begin (light) wardrobe layering; stylish boots, cute sweaters, charming knits and lush scarves are my absolute favorite. And my ultimate weakness….. Plaid.

I felt inspired by all the beautiful fall colors that have been showing up on my Instagram feed, which led me to pick out some of my favorite lip colors for the season which I have been reaching for recently.  As shown above (clockwise from the top):

  1. RMS, Diabolique – A deep rich burgundy*
  2. Tata Harper, Very Vivacious – A warm coral*
  3. ilia, Femme Fatale – A deep sultry brick red
  4. Jane Iredale, Naughty – A creamy brick red, with brown undertones
  5. Jane Iredale, Luscious – A creamy rose brown
  6. RMS, Illusive –  A matte burnt rose, with plum undertones*

I have a certain attachment towards deep sultry wine colors and love how it can instantly dress up an entire look. I suppose I am also at an age where I can appreciate and carry them off well. If you aren’t used to wearing such intense colors and feel intimidated, I suggest starting off with a sheer formula as opposed to a creamy one which can come off too strong. Ilia makes a beautiful wine shade called Arabian Knights (not pictured) which is a great for day-time wear, or anyone looking for a sheer wash of berry. The great thing about it is that the color is buildable for those who prefer a more pigmented color. It is perfect for all skin tones which every lady can appreciate!

What fall shades are you loving? I would love to hear about them 🙂

*Note: These are lip & cheek formulations and can be worn both ways.
